The Maritime International Advisory Panel (IAP) held its third annual meeting on April 16, 2024, during the Singapore Maritime Week 2024. This year, the Maritime IAP held in-depth discussions on the key developments in the maritime sector, including decarbonization, green financing, digitalization and cybersecurity.Established in 2022 by the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the Maritime IAP aims to seek international perspectives on key long-term trends and developments that will shape the maritime industry.

Singapore Registry of Ships Reaches 100 Million Gross Tonnage

The Singapore Registry of Ships (SRS) surpassed the 100 million gross tonnage (GT) milestone, with the registration of AETā€™s Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC), Eagle Veracruz, on January 23, 2024.SRS is administered by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). Singapore Announces Maritime Scholarship Awards

At an award ceremony in Singapore this week, 60 MaritimeONE Scholarships and seven Tripartite Maritime Scholarships (TMSS) were presented, sponsored by 34 partners from industry, foundations, and unions.The number surpassed last yearā€™s award of 54 scholarships by 27 partners. More companies have come onboard to support MaritimeONE Scholarships in recent years, reflecting the focus on talent development by Maritime Singapore. Van Oord Takes Delivery of Third Dual-fuel LNG Dredger

Van Oord Ship Management has taken delivery of its third dual-fuel trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD), from Seatrium in Singapore.The delivery of Vox Alexia, the final unit of a series of three dual-fuel LNG-powered dredgers, follows the first and second dredger newbuilds Vox Ariane and Vox Apolonia delivered in April and December 2022 respectively.Vox Alexia is IMO Tier III compliant, built to Bureau Veritas (BV) class and has a hopper capacity of 10,500m3. Shell Cuts Oil Imports at Singapore Refinery Amid Mooring Repairs

Singaporeā€™s First Hybrid Electric Bunker Vessel Delivered

Singaporeā€™s first hybrid bunker tanker, Marine Charge, has been delivered to V-Bunkers, Vitolā€™s Singaporean bunker operations company.The 7990-ton vessel, designed by SeaTech Solutions and built by Zhejiang Shenzhou Sunshine Heavy Industry is fitted with 480Kwh of Shiftā€™s energy storage system (ESS).Shift Clean Energyā€™s ESS will be primarily used for peak shaving (storing energy during low power consumption for use during peak usage periods, allowing main generators to operate with a more stable load).

V-Bunkers Unveils Singaporeā€™s First Electric-Hybrid Bunker Vessel

Vitolā€™s Singaporean bunker operations company, V-Bunkers, has announced the imminent delivery of what will be Singaporeā€™s first electric-hybrid bunker tanker.The vessel, Marine charge, features lithium-ion batteries and an automated Power Management System expected to achieve an estimated 10% reduction in GHG emissions.The design configuration enables the auxiliary engines to operate at the most optimal specific fuel oil consumption, while the energy storage system (ESS) performs peak shaving during low power consumption periods for usage of stored energy during high consumption periods.

Strategic Marine Opens New Shipyard in Singapore

Strategic Marine unveiled a new shipyard facility located on JTCā€™s waterfront site at 5 Benoi Road in western Singapore. The ceremony also saw the delivery of Southeast Asiaā€™s first hybrid crew transfer vessel (CTV), and the unveiling of Strategic Marineā€™s fourth-generation fast crew boat (FCB).The new facility features a 5,000-DWT dry dock measuring 105m in length, 18.5m in width, and 8m in depth as well as a 6,000 DWT slipway.As part of the opening ceremony, the hybrid CTV, HST Swansea, was delivered to its new owner, UK-based HST Marine, along with its sistervessel, HST Tynemouth.

Singaporeā€™s Majestic Fast Ferry Pte has welcomed the arrival of three new Incat Crowther-designed passenger ferries: Majestic Peace, Majestic Spirit and Majestic Flair are the first of a fleet of nine Generation 2 Incat Crowther 39s vessels to be added to Majesticā€™s fleet.Built in Indonesian shipyard PT Cahaya Samudra Shipyard, the 39-m ferries are capable of transporting 312 passengers at speeds of up to 32 knots. Tuas Port Phase 1 Reclamation Project gets Engineering Award Nod

For the engineering innovations behind the Tuas Port Phase 1 (TPP1) Reclamation, Wharf Construction & Dredging Project, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and project partners were awarded the 2022 World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) H.J. Sabbagh Prize for Excellence in Engineering Construction.Key design innovations included large-scale reuse of recyclable materials such as dredged seabed material and land-excavated materials, which accounted for more than half of the reclamation fill for TPP1.

Singapore Bunker Sales Hit 22-month High

Marine fuel sales at Singapore jumped to a 22-month high in November, latest official data showed on Tueday, as lower prices lifted buying interest at the world's largest bunkering hub.November bunker sales totalled 4.37 million tonnes, climbing 3% month-on-month and up 4% year-on-year, data from Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority showed.The higher sales came despite lower vessel arrivals for bunkering at Singapore, which dipped dipped by 4% month-on-month at 3,299 vessel calls, although edged higher by 3% year-on-year.

The number of tankers used for storing fuel oil along the Singapore Strait has risen since the Ukraine war broke out and could rise further as more of Russia's supplies hit by sanctions head to Asia, industry sources and analysts said.A rise in floating storage supply along the strategic waterway is an indicator that more supplies are available to Asia, which will help ease tight markets. Keppel Offshore & Marine Wins $74,7M FPSO Conversion Work

Singapore's Keppel Offshore & Marine has won a contract from an unnamed repeat customer worth about S$100 million (USD 74,7 million) for the fabrication and integration work on a Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel (FPSO).Scheduled for delivery in 4Q 2022, Keppel Shipyardā€™s scope of work includes the fabrication, installation and integration of topside modules, riser balconies and spread mooring support structures, as well as supporting the customer on pre-commissioning and commissioning work.

China's INE Considers Singapore for Marine Fuel Futures Delivery

The Shanghai International Energy Exchange (INE) is considering using oil storage sites in Singapore owned by PetroChina Co as a delivery point for its low-sulphur fuel oil futures contract, according to two sources with direct knowledge of the matter.The INEā€™s move would be the first time a Chinese futures contract would be deliverable outside of China and could boost liquidity for the contract, as well as help to influence pricing for shipping fuel.Low-sulphur fuel oil (LSFO) is required as ship fuel to meet new maritime emissions regulations that went into effect this year.

Singapore: Keppel O&M, EMA Award Grant for Floating Energy Storage System Pilot

Singapore's Energy Market Authority (EMA) and Keppel Offshore & Marine have jointly awarded a research grant to pilot Singaporeā€™s first floating Energy Storage System (ESS). This project was awarded to a consortium led by Envision Digital International Pte Ltd (Envision Digital), aspart of the $10 million partnership between EMA and Keppel O&M  - announced in April 2020 - to develop innovative energy solutions in the marine sector.Keppel O&M said Monday it would work with the consortium to deploy a 7.5 MW/7.5MWh lithium-ion battery ESS on Keppel O&Mā€™s Floating Living Lab (FLL).
